Jagjit Brar, (born 14 September 1980) popularly known as Jagjit Brar Honey Fattanwala, is an politician based in the province of Punjab, India. He was senior vice president of people's party of Punjab and currently he is working as general Secretary of Punjab pradesh congress
Jagjit Singh Brar is basically from Sri Muktsar Sahib of Punjab. Jagjit Singh pursued his graduation in Bachelor of Arts from the prominent Punjab University, Chandigarh.
Since college times, Jagjit started developing an interest in politics as he has always been sincere towards doing the welfare of people. He then thought of developing his interest in his passion and all-time profession. By seeking the profession as a politician, he got the opportunity to serve people with wider prospects.
Jagjit Singh Brar Fattanwala is a member of Indian National Congress. He was originally from the distinguished party of Punjab known as "People's Party of Punjab". In 2015, People's Party of Punjab was merged with Indian National Congress for constituting a concrete alliance for 2017 polls. This action was taken by Manpreet Singh Badal, who is also the maternal cousin of Jagjit Singh Brar. Manpreet Singh Badal is also the Finance Minister of Punjab. Jagjit joined the congress party with his maternal cousin Manpreet Singh Badal. The alliance was formed to strengthen the party for forthcoming elections of 2017 in order to curb the opposing parties easily.
In the 2012 Muktsar assembly segment election, 18, 000 people’s supported him with their valuable votes. After a disagreement, he also announced that he will contest the election of 2017 polls independently if he will not be offered the ticket from Congress because he firmly believed that the people of Muktsar wanted him as their leader.
Jagjit Singh has been the youth general secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal. He has worked with sheer proficiency with this association and served people with sheer diligence. Jagjit Singh has also served as the chairman of Muktsar Market Committee from 2008 to 2011.
In 2019 June, fuel prices were inflated, he genuinely expressed his voice against the same by conducting a peaceful protest. Karan Kaur, who is daughter in law of ex-CM Harcharan Singh Brar joined him in his protest against the centre. This in itself signifies that Jagjit Singh is a leader who believes in the welfare of the middle class and poor people and fights for the injustice being done to them in any form.
Jagjit Singh is currently the state general secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress. His journey has been incredible as a leader and especially in Muktsar.
Jagjit Singh Brar Fattanwala is from a family which has witnessed a long and glorious history in the political arena. His grandfather Sardar Harchand Singh Brar Fattanwala was a renowned politician since the times when India became a republic country. His grandfather has a big name in Punjab politics. Sardar Harchand Singh Brar Fattanwala is known for six successful tenures as Sarpanch of Muktsar. He gained a good name by serving as the executive member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. This committee is considered as one of the most sacred organisations and it basically manages all the Gurdwaras based in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Committee also manages the Gurudwaras of Chandigarh, the mutual capital of Punjab and Haryana.
In 1980, he won the prestigious ticket from Shiromani Akali Dal which is a popular Indian Political Party based in Punjab, India. After winning the ticket, he also became the MLA.
Jagjit Singh Brar Fattanwala Father’s Gurraj Singh is also a big name when the political arena of Punjab is taken into cognizance. In the Muktsar Assembly Election of 1985, Gurraj Singh lost them with a very low margin of votes. There was a close call between him and Harchand Singh of SAD. Harchand Singh of SAD got 30003 votes and Gurraj Singh from People's Party of Punjab got 28315 votes.
It has been more than 70 years since the name of the Brar family has been gleaming in the history of Punjab politics.
Jagjit Singh Brar maintains a good and cordial relationship with all the influential members in Punjab. He has close relations with the Prakash Singh Badal who is also the Ex-Chief Minister of Punjab.
Jagjit’s brother, Manjit Singh Brar Fattanwala was the district cabinet of Shiromani Akali Dal. He has also been the chairman of the prominent sugar industry in Faridkot Punjab from 2001 to 2007. Jagjit Singh Brar Fattanwala is married to Birinder Kaur, and he has son and a daughter.
